Scholarships are available for both undergraduate and postgraduate applicants and awards are made for the academic year 2011/2012 (or for the duration of your course). Scholarships of £1,000 per year will be awarded and the scholarship award will be deducted from your annual tuition fee. A maximum of 10 undergraduate and 5 postgraduate scholarship awards will be made for each intake (September 2011 and January 2012).

A limited number of Scholarships are available and will be awarded to students on the basis of outstanding achievement. Categories you may wish to consider applying under are:

- Social or Cultural: including community projects or voluntary work

Scholarship Description:
A number of Scholarships are available to non UK and non EU students for undergraduate and taught postgraduate studies in the following subject areas:
  • Biological Sciences
  • Biomedical Science
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Engineering
  • Physics
  • Geography*
  • Psychology
  • Sports Science
The deadline for applications is 1 September 2011.
The Scholarship Scheme is for entry in the Session 2011/12 only. The Scheme applies to international (non-UK and non-EU) studentsmaking applications for a fulltime taught programme of study only and includes students wishing to enter directly into years 2, 3 or 4 of the programme of study. The closing date for applications for Scholarships is 1 September 2011 and Applications should bemade direct to the relevant department or the International Office.

No application for a Scholarship shall be considered without the Department having first received either a UCAS application formor an application formfor a postgraduate programme of study. Award of Scholarships is up to amaximumof £1,500 (or £750 for BA Geography) and is at the discretion of the Department. Departmentsmay award a Scholarship subject to satisfaction of any conditions, which it determines appropriate for entry to the programme of study. Scholarshipsmay only be awarded to applicants satisfying general University, Departmental and Programme of Study regulations.

The Scholarship is payable as a credit against tuition fees only, No guarantee of a Scholarship can bemade where an applicant indicates that he/she wishes to defer entry to 2012/13. The Scholarship is awarded per annumfor the normal period of study. No student shall be entitled to a scholarship in excess of the period of study for which they are originally registered. This should be noted by any student wishing, after their first year of study, to transfer to the first year of another programme of study. The continuation of a scholarship after the first year of study is subject to satisfactory performance in assessments and examinations and progression to the next normal year of study.

Scholarships are not transferable between Departments.Where a student wishes to transfer to another programme of study in another Department, the new Department is under no obligation to honour the commitment to a scholarship. Any student wishing to transfer to another Department be advised tomake appropriate enquiries of the new Department in advance of any firmdecision to transfer.

School of Geography and Archaeology: The Human Environment, College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences
Applications are invited for this three year post.  The Department of Geography, University College Cork, is seeking to appoint a full-time Lecturer in Physical Geography to complement and strengthen the Department’s existing research and teaching interests.  Applications are invited for this position, which is offered, initially, as a 3-year contract post.
Applicants must hold a doctoral qualification.  Consideration will be given to applicants from any major specialism within PhysicalGeography , although preference will be given to those with expertise in applied, environmental management themes and/or those working in coastal and marine areas.
The appointee will be expected to contribute to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to contribute to research supervision within the Department.  Evidence of peer reviewed publications will be expected, together with experience in teaching within the third-level education system.

, RSt George’s Universityesearch Assistant Applications are invited from enthusiastic and ambitious individuals with excellent communication and interpersonal skills for this new postdoctoral Research Assistant post working within the Division of Biomedical Sciences in Dr K Török’s laboratory. You will be a highly motivated individual used to working in a multidisciplinary environment.
You should possess a degree/ PhD in Physiology, Biochemistry or Biophysics.
This new position is funded by the Wellcome Trust to develop and study in neurophysiological systems novel probes of the Ca2+ signalling pathway.

Experience in fluorescence techniques, fast kinetics, flash photolysis would be an advantage but molecular biology, protein biochemistry background with a desire to learn cell physiology is also suitable. Knowledge in neurotransmission, Ca2+ signaling and protein kinase structure-function is desirable.
An essential element of the research project is to pursue an active collaboration with Dr D Ogden’s Research Division at Paris Descartes Medical School in Paris, France. This will involve several trips and some weeks spent there and the willingness to work with both Dr Török’s and Dr Ogden’s groups on the project.
The starting salary for this post is within the range £32,770 to £37,543 inclusive of London Allowance.

Faculty position in Engineering, natural science and sustainable energy.
The School of Science and Engineering at Reykjavík University is looking for candidates to lead the academic program within the Reykjavík Energy Graduate School of Sustainable Systems (REYST). We are looking for a person with an interest in and knowledge of sustainable energy systems. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in engineering or natural science. Industry experience is beneficial, but not essential.

The REYST program is a cooperative effort between Reykjavík University and Reykjavík Energy. It offers a program of graduate studies leading to a MS degree in sustainable energy science or a MS degree in sustainable energy engineering. The REYST program is based on a broad foundation where all students are required to take classes on energy technology, geoscience and energy economics before specializing further. The REYST program has strong industrial ties and emphasises professional rigour.
